The Youth Assist Centre best known as the YAC Shack (not Yak Shack) is a community recreational centre initiated and managed by the Christian Family Church and has been operating in various ways for over 15 years.

We are a non profit incorporated association and we aim to provide non sporting recreational activities for young people in Charters Towers. We run an activities program every Friday night during the public school terms but are also available for use by appointment at most other times during the week.

Our Friday night program is fully supervised by leaders from local churches, schools and parents of young people attending. We lock the doors at 7:15pm so there are no passes out and we do not allow smoking, drinking of alcohol, use of drugs, any form of abuse or foul language. Our leaders encourage everybody to participate, to be respectful and have a great time. Safety and a positive environment for youth is of great importance to us and we will take the appropriate actions to ensure we provide this.
